Election night uke

Tuesday is election night, and you could spend your evening glued to CNN, waiting anxiously to see which candidate takes Ohio and Virginia.

But that's no way to live. Join us instead, for peace, love, and ukulele. Or at least ukulele. As usual, 7:00 p.m. at Dave's house.

Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain to perform in Omaha

The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain is on a world tour, and will be headed our way (relatively speaking) next spring. On Friday, April 19, 2013, they will perform in Omaha. Tickets are on sale now.

If you're not familiar with them, you're in for a treat. Check out some of their audio and video.

Here's one of my favorites:

Best Amazon uke book review ever

I enjoy reading crazy Amazon.com product reviews. Here's the first one I've seen that's uke-related: "Awsome" - a review of "From Lute To Uke: Early Music For Ukulele"

An excerpt:
i will make my wife change her name to ukulele. we will burn down our house that is shaped like a ukulele and move to hawaii. we will figure out which island is shaped most like a ukulele and build another house there that is shaped like a ukulele.

Greensleeves

The late, great John King  published an arrangement of "What Child Is This?" a.k.a. "Greensleeves" on his web site several years ago. He was known for playing classical music, and it's in a classical guitar style. I've been trying to learn it, and it took me a long time before it was even recognizable. Maybe by Christmas, I'll have it down! Anything beyond my usual 3 chords of strumming is a bit of a challenge.

He's got a downloadable PDF of the tabs and an MP3 of him playing it.

The guy was really something. If you have a chance, check him out on YouTube.

October already?

We meet again on Tuesday 2 October, 7:00 p.m. at the usual place. See you there.

On the Cover of the Rolling Stone

... or at least the Brookings Register. Three of us were interviewed last week, and yesterday the local paper printed an article about us. I guess it was a slow news day, because we ended up on page 1.

Ukulele seized by noise police

Aukland ukulele seized by noise police.

It's a good thing we meet at Dave's house, where the nearest neighbor probably wouldn't hear us even if all the doors and windows were open.
